Happy coincidences led Eleison Bejar to where he is today.
Eleison quickly found his place at when he “fatefully stumbled” into the Griffin Hall common room on Open Day. Now as Vice-President, he’s dedicated to supporting and leading students who also “stumble across” the Hall.
For Eleison, it’s the many little interactions that have inspired a passion for Griffin Hall.
“It's hanging out in the common room, the sporting events, laughing your head off during theatre sports or being out the front of the mosh pit when the Griffin BNO band is playing.”
When reflecting on these moments, that’s when he finds himself thinking: “Yes, that was the time I was with my friends. I was with my community. I was really living life to the fullest.”
Described by his friends as energetic and curious, Eleison approaches his studies with openness and seemingly thrives when things don’t go according to plan. Despite his original academic goals, he eventually pivoted, fully embracing a Bachelor of Science. Even his focus in Science Communication began as an elective before one subject became two, and then a possible minor became a major. His studies are diverse, with an additional major in Human Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
Beyond academics, Eleison considered leadership as he “wanted to see what fun adventures it could take [him] on.”
“Spoiler,” he says, “it took me on a bunch.”
After attending an Ordinary General Meeting (OGM), he applied his high school leadership and event organising experience to become Griffin’s First-Year Arts Representative. He remained in the Arts portfolio in his second year, with his role as the 2025 Interhall Arts Committee (IAC) Treasurer extending from this position and passion. These experiences prepared Eleison to become Griffin Hall’s Vice-President this year.
To Eleison, leadership isn’t simply a title. Each position is meaningful to him, and he is devoted to an extensive array of projects across his roles. From upgrades to the hall’s common room, to developing branded coasters and magnets for Griffin, to internal operations and marketing, Eleison has demonstrated initiative and care for his community. As well as “experiences, fun times and memories” he is particularly proud of his coordination within the hall’s leadership team and also more generally across ANU. He is also supporting incoming students by liaising with the Future Students Team and highlighting the opportunities available at Griffin Hall through website upgrades.
He loves his Mum’s cooking with his favourite meal being longganisa, a traditional Filipino dish. His preference is tea over coffee, and he considers himself an early bird.
A memory he labels “funny and wholesome” involves the Griffin tradition of cramming into a bathroom for a selfie at Commencement and Valete. He claims this year’s was particularly hilarious as there was a nice “steady photo from the ladies and then the guys were...yeah...” When Eleison isn’t at Griffin Hall or isn’t spending his time with Za Kabuki Club, he can be found playing video games or chatting with high school friends over Discord.
When sharing his ideal day in Canberra, Eleison immediately responded by asking “Can I include Griffin Hall?” emphasising his unwavering connection to his community and the reciprocal support it offers.
