ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃUniversity Strategy Community Engagement
The ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃRoadmap sets out our path from stabilising the University’s foundations to shape a strong future together. As part of this journey, ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃhas begun developing the University’s next Strategy through a structured co-design process with our community.
The University Strategy Community Engagement will build on the foundations established through the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃRoadmap and will set the University’s priorities and direction for the coming decade. Through this process, we are engaging staff, students, alumni and partners across Australia to help shape the future of Australia’s national university.
We are currently in the discovery phase – listening to the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃcommunity and gathering insights that will inform the next stage of the Strategy. During the discovery phase, a range of mechanisms will provide opportunities for the community to participate in this process. Our process will run until September 2026 and will take the findings from this discovery phase into shaping, writing and implementing the Strategy.
Developing the University Strategy through co-design
The last ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃStrategy concluded in December 2025. This is an opportunity for our next Strategy to be developed through a co-design process that brings together leadership engagement, structured consultation and open community input.
The University Strategy will reflect the knowledge, experience and aspirations of the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃcommunity.
The process includes:
- Leadership discussions with ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃCouncil and the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃUniversity Leadership Group
- Facilitated sessions across Colleges and Portfolios, and our student community
- Consultation with alumni and external stakeholders through a variety of mechanisms, including surveys
- Open opportunities for all of our community to contribute ideas and feedback
Insights gathered through these activities will be analysed and synthesised to identify key themes that will inform the Strategy.
We will provide regular updates to our community as the work progresses through each phase of the Strategy development process.
Facilitated conversations across the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃcommunity
As part of the discovery phase, there will be opportunities to join facilitated conversations across campus.
These sessions will provide an opportunity for staff and students to share perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃand the priorities that should guide the University’s future direction.
Members of the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃcommunity will also be able to host their own facilitated discussions within their areas or networks. Resources and guidance will be provided to support these conversations and to ensure that insights are captured and considered as part of the Strategy development process.
Engagement and next steps
Our first round of consultation has begun. Members of the University Leadership Group have gathered feedback and insights from their Colleges and Portfolios and presented these insights to the University Leadership Group Meeting on Tuesday 10 March 2026.
This first round of consultation focused on three core themes:
What we are really good at; where the biggest opportunities lie; and what needs to be done over the next three-to-five years to sustain excellence and increase our impact.
Insights gathered through this first round of consultation are currently being synthesised into a Directions Document.
The Directions Document will summarise the key themes emerging from the first round of consultation and outline the strategic opportunities and priorities that will guide the next stage of the Strategy development process. It will reflect what we have heard from our community and ensure we are heading in the right direction.
The Directions Document will be shared with the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃcommunity in the week of 23 March, and will form the basis for the next round of consultation.
If you did not get the opportunity to provide input into your local area consultation, you can provide input via email to strategy.codesign@anu.edu.au.
