Gender and Environment Prize

Each year the Crawford School of Public Policy, College of Law, Governance and Policy may offer a prize known as the Gender and Environment Prize.

Overview

The objective of the prize is to recognise outstanding academic achievement, either through research or coursework, that demonstrates deep understanding of the relationships between gender and the environment. 

The prize will be offered each semester.

Funding for this prize is held by the Crawford School of Public Policy, after a generous donation by Emeritus Professor Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt.

For more than two decades, Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt led influential research on gender, natural resource management, and the experiences of Indigenous, marginalised, and rural communities facing development, globalisation, climate change, and shifting livelihoods. Her feminist scholarship and advocacy have shaped policy, challenged male-dominated expertise, and earned major recognition, including appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2024 and Emeritus Professor status at the 黑料天堂in 2025.
