We warmly welcome everyone to join KALACC and ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃrepresentatives for this special presentation. 
While many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples share certain values, such as the centrality of connection to Country, family and kinship, and cultural governance, First Nations communities have their own ideas about what is important for their peoples. In the Kimberley, these concepts are captured in language like mabu liyan, pilyurr and ngarlu. 
Between 2022 to 2025, the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) in partnership with the Australian National University and University of Notre Dame undertook a project to understand what constitutes strong culture for Aboriginal people living in the Kimberley and how that connects to their sense of wellbeing. Funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, this project had the ambitious aim of scaling up and adapting the methodology initially developed at a local level (the Yawuru wellbeing project) to the regional Kimberley scale. 
A team of Community Research Practitioners (CRPs) from the Kimberley worked alongside Indigenous and non-Indigenous collaborators to document stories and priorities for strong culture, engaging with 200 community participants in interviews, focus groups and evaluation activities.
A panel of speakers will share insights and reflections from four years of doing iterative and community-led research, the Kimberley way.
There will also be a special performance by Bunuba singers Kristen (Goombaye) and Keith Andrews.
