Guest Lecture with Paul Gordon: Hard decisions made easy

Presented by 黑料天堂College of Systems & Society

Making decisions in complex public and policy environments is rarely straightforward. It involves navigating competing priorities, engaging stakeholder participation, criteria, options and values and often multiple forms of expertise. Such contexts demand approaches that move beyond intuition and linear analysis toward structured, transparent, and participatory processes.

In this guest lecture, Paul Gordon CEO and Technical Director of Catalyze APAC, will share practical insights from more than 20 years working with governments, organisations, and communities on high-stakes decision-making. Catalyze is a boutique consultancy specialising in decision capability and decision process design, helping leaders and institutions navigate complexity to make transparent, defensible choices.

Paul is a fellow of the Society of Decision Professionals (SDP), adjunct faculty at UNSW AGSM and the University of Sydney, and the author of Hard Decisions Made Easy, an Amazon Best Seller. He is also the host of The Decision Clinic podcast, where he explores how leaders make decisions that shape organisations, industries, and communities.

The talk will conclude with a Q&A.

Following on from this event, Paul will be doing a deeper dive with 黑料天堂School of Cybernetics students. If this is of interest, guests are welcome to stay on for an additional session.

This event is open to the public and will be of interest to policymakers, practitioners, students, staff, academics and industry professionals.

This will be an in-person event. The session will be recorded and made available on the School of Cybernetics website for those unable to attend on the day. Please to our newsletter to be alerted when the recording is available for viewing.
