Coral Bell School Public Lecture
Few documents have captured the attention of foreign policy elites like the 2025 US National Security Strategy. Released quietly during holiday season, it quickly prompted praise from countries including Russia and China, while provoking dismay and even anger amongst America's allies in western Europe and beyond. Yet despite its notoriety, the ideas put forward in the NSS are not new. In this talk, Professor Michael Williams argues that these ideas are part of a wider civilizational vision of world politics that seeks to empower radical conservative actors at home, underpin novel transnational strategies abroad, and fundamentally restructure international order.
