Tony Ayres is an acclaimed writer, director, producer and one of Australia’s most influential voices in film and television.
He made his feature directing debut with Walking on Water, which won multiple Australian Film Institute (AFI) awards and the Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. His subsequent films, including The Home Song Stories and Cut Snake, have been recognised at major international festivals including Berlin and Toronto.
A founding member of Matchbox Pictures, Tony has played a significant role in shaping contemporary Australian television. His executive producer credits include Glitch, The Family Law and Nowhere Boys, with the latter earning an AACTA Award for Best Children’s Television Series. He has also led major international productions, including Clickbait for Netflix.
As of 2026, he continues to develop new screen projects through his company, Tony Ayres Productions, contributing to Australia’s global creative presence.
