To oversee the review of its Student Disciplinary Framework, the University established the Student Disciplinary Framework Review (SDFR) Project Board, which oversaw phase 1 of the project between January and October 2025. Phases 2 and 3 of the project were overseen by the Registrar. The review is now complete.

Background
ºÚÁÏÌìÌà (ANU) is committed to promoting safety and wellbeing in our community. As part of this commitment, the University has undertaken a review of its Student Disciplinary Framework. A routine process aimed at continuous improvement, ensuring the University’s policies remain effective, fair, and follow best practice principles.
The Student Disciplinary Framework Review (SDFR) was informed by:
- institutional learnings since the 2021 review;
- broad consultation with the University community; and
- incoming regulatory changes relating to harmful behaviours on university campuses, including the ‘’, the establishment of the , and the outcomes from the forthcoming National Student Safety Survey.
The review considered how the University's disciplinary practices continued to adhere to regulatory requirements fairly and equitably.
Phases
The review comprised three key phases:
Phase 1 – Resource-based development: Benchmarking and development of a resource base from which the review drew findings and recommendations. Involve broad consultation with University stakeholders, collating feedback and consolidating the resources necessary for phase 2.
Phase 2 – Preliminary recommendations & consultation: Drafting of recommendations for changes to the Student Disciplinary Framework into a draft report, which was released for further community consultation.
Phase 3 – Final recommendations report: Release of the final recommendations report, implementation of which is being overseen by the Registrar. Actions have been referred to the relevant approval authorities and University teams responsible for implementation and are underway.
Governance
The Project Board provided governance, strategic oversight, and decision-making support for the successful delivery of the Student Disciplinary Framework Review Draft Recommendations Report.
The Project Board comprised:
- University leadership
- Internal experts
- Student representatives
- External experts

The Project Board concluded in October 2025, approving the Draft Recommendation Report, Phase 1 Consultation Report and Phase 2/3 Communications Plan. The Registrar oversaw phases 2 and 3and has ongoing responsibility for implementation oversight of the report.
As part of implementation, any actions related to the recommendations that affect the Rules, policy and procedures will be approved by the relevant University authority, such as the Academic Board, the Academic Quality and Assurance Committee, and/or Council.
